This is what cool from the battle between Beyonders. Sharon is smart to sleep or pretend to sleep near the statue, because in that place the Sleepless/Nightmare pathway is relatively abundance, and therefore "she" (for brevity) anticipated it.
Also for the artifact being effective against Demonesses, then it must means it has been used before. They would know this and they would always prepare against it, especially for an experienced one like Sharon. And they have talent for substitution magic, which is a perfect counter (?) when timed right.
The battle is not just about overpowering the enemy but also outsmarting thereof.
