To be honest, the first time i watch this EP before, I really think Haruhi slapping Hikaru was a bit too much. Rewatching this again after so long, my opinion remains the same. There are other better ways to defend your friend from being talked bad by your literal friend. Being physical is just… out of the line. Glad they both reconciled on their own way.
Also, I really admire Kaoru here. His maturity is on par with Kyoya and Takashi, knowing where to take action and has full understanding of the situation.

Damn to think Haruhi and Arai could've been a thing (Haruhi had no idea she rejected him after all) and would've never met the Host club
Why Hikaru hates Arai:
Because Arai gives Hikaru so much pain
Pain no. 1: Hikaru is possessive of "his people" ie the Host Club, including Haruhi. "His people" are the only people he let into his life and actually bond with. Anyone outside of this circle is an "outsider". Hikaru is antagonistic towards outsiders. Haruhi is someone the host club has been trying to bond so hard with, so for an "outsider" to simply just appear one day and knew Haruhi longer than the Host club do, that is unpleasant for Hikaru
Pain number 2: Arai the "outsider" from Haruhi's past was close to Haruhi, their relationship was romance-coded even if it's one-sided. For an outsider to have that kind of connection to Haruhi, someone who is "his people", for Hikaru that is just unacceptable. That's why he was trying so hard to bully Arai and sabotaging his friendship with Haruhi, insulting him and discouraging his feelings tor Haruhi
Pain number 3: Hikaru realises that this outsider from Haruhi's past, Arai, is his competitor for Haruhi's feelings. And the fact that Arai knew Haruhi for much longer just rubbed more salt in his wound
Sincerely, someone who was in the exact same boat as Hikaru as a kid and teen, and is now an adult who knows better
Rewatching this again made me realise how tamaki has always been the one
Atleast Tamaki is the lucky man who got married by Haruhi😞 (big TamaHaru fan)
